SOLARIGRAPHIC ALBUM AND WORK FILES
In this album I present my project files and digital sketches. These are not final printfiles. Final prints are carefully chosen and digitaly remastered. Some of my current works are more and more abstract and experimental, as you can see on work files. Basically I am fascinated by odd results that I get with these simple pinhole cameras. Light still makes pictures but photographer does not control final out come. PhotoShop is just a tool and I add “spices” with it to scanned B&W papers.
NEW WORKS WITH SOLARIGRAFIA
In this new 2009 project I assembled ten filmcancameras in Riihimäki, in town which I was born. I visit Riihimäki couple of times in each year. Part of results were shown in Riihimäki Art museum in fall 2009.www.riihimaki.fi/taidemuseo

While making this project for Ar museum I planted a camera to my granny's tomb, in graveyard. I just got cameracan back (2010). It was tilted, can was wet and B&W-paper inside was exposured somehow.

WHAT IS SOLARIGRAFIA?
Basically solarigraphic camera is a pinhole camera, very slow one. These pinhole photographs taken with a lensless pinhole camera with a extra long exposure. I use black&white paper which is 5-10 ASA. Exposure time can be very long, in some photos up to six months. Usually average camera is hidden in city for one to two months. The picture will appear without developing photographic paper with any kind of chemicals. Exposured paper is scanned in darkness and developed in Photoshop. All the cameras are very low tech, cheap boxes, canisters or film cans. This method in is antidope for digital photographic madness. I can take only like 5 pictures in month.
Sun draws many interesting traces in photos, you can really see the time passing by. Some times camera is tilted by passerby or tape just goes loose. Double exposures or traces of humidity can be seen in photos.

Ollipekka Kangas, Short CV
Ollipekka Kangas is born 1965. He has studied Art, Art education and hypermedia in University of Tampere. He graduated as Master of Arts from University of Art and Design Helsinki 1999. Kangas is currently working in University of Turku as a Art lecturer. Kangas has held several private exhibitions since 1991 in Cities of Tampere, Turku, Riihimäki, Hämeenlinna, Hyvinkää and Helsinki. He participated in various annual exhibitions starting 1992.
Kangas took part in Artist’s Association of Finland 1993, 1998 and 1999 and in the 100th
Anniversary Exhibition of of the Finnish Painter’s Union in Helsinki Art Hall 1995. He has also participated in several photographic exhibitions.
He has received awards from Lions Club Hämeenlinna in 1993, City of Hämeenlinna artist’s
scholarship in 1994 and grand from Hämeenlinna Art Association in 1995. There are public works in collections of Janakkala county, Cityes of Riihimäki and Hämeenlinna.

Sumu Artists' Residency in TITANIK gallery
Arte association’s Sumu Artists' Residency offers new media artists, working in the intersection of new technologies and contemporary art from one to three months residencies.
The Arts Center is located in Southwest Finland coast in the city of Turku. Artists are provided with room and studio. Studio is adjoined to the gallery Titanik, run by the artist’s association Arte. The program can include an exhibition either in our gallery Titanik or on our website. Arte provides the artists with a free studio and accommodation. The artists must fund all their living expences including food and transportation. Arte can help the artists with the material expences depending on the application.
Type and size of studios
The working space, 20m2, is adjoined to the gallery Titanik, located in the centre of the city on the shore of the river Aura.
